ULMS has seven major ensembles including six which rehearse weekly: Big Band, Brass Band, Choir, String Orchestra, Swing Group, and Wind Band. Our seventh is the ULMS Orchestra, which encompasses all society members and only rehearses in the lead up to major concerts.
Each main ensemble (besides Orchestra) rehearses once a week during term time, and any member of ULMS can join any of our ensembles.
All of our major ensembles perform throughout the year, both in a traditional concerts, and at events such as Roses and the Ballroom Dancing Society’s Charity Showcase. Our ensembles are also able to take part in competitions, such as Brass Band, who won the UniBrass competition in 2024.
Each ensemble is represented on the ULMS Committee by a representative*, which is sometimes undertaken as a shared position. Reps are responsible for the organisation of the ensemble, including choosing conductors and liaising with them to chose the music, setting up and packing away at each session, and relaying information about different events and things happening in ULMS to the members of that ensemble.
To take a look at each individual band in a bit more detail, please use the links in the drop down menu beneath the ensembles tab.
*ULMS Orchestra is overseen by the Event Coordinator.
