It’s just two weeks until we’re back for Welcome Week 2021, and we’re so excited! For new or existing members, here is a run-down of the people who will be running the society over the next year – they are your main points of contact if you have any questions, suggestions or problems, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch either by email or via our Facebook page. In this post, we’re starting with the ‘Big Three’: President, Secretary and Treasurer.
President
Louise Frankland
Degree: Theoretical Physics with Maths, 4th year
Instruments: Clarinet, Saxophone
Ensembles: Wind Band, Swing Group
Hi everyone! I have been involved with ULMS since the start of my first year. As well as being part of the wind band and swing group, I also lead the sax choir and clarinet choir. This is my third year as part of the committee having previously been Secretary and before then one of two social secretaries alongside Amaia. I am very excited to get back to regular rehearsals and concerts and hope that we will be able to have as close to a normal year as possible despite covid.
Secretary
George Allin
Degree: Religious Studies, final year
Instruments: Voice, Violin
Ensembles: Choir, String Orchestra
Hi, I’m George, and I’m heading into my final year studying Religious Studies. ULMS has always been an active part of my life at uni, previously having been choir rep and social sec on the committee. This year I’m really looking forward to conducting the choir and string orchestra and finally getting back to performing in concerts.
As Secretary my main role week to week is scheduling, and taking minutes at, the weekly committee meetings but I am also involved in other tasks such as booking rehearsal spaces and organising collaborations with other societies.
Treasurer
Amaia Imaz Blanco
Degree: Astrophysics, 4th year
Instruments: Violin
Ensembles: Orchestra, String Orchestra
Hello! I’m Amaia, the ULMS treasurer this year. I am a fourth year (masters) astrophysics student, on my third ULMS committee, having previously been social secretary with Louise, our president, and String Orchestra Representative (in a very weird covid year). I’m Spanish and grew up in the Netherlands, and somehow ended up at Lancaster. Other than ULMS and my degree (which granted take up a lot of my time) I am this year’s women’s handball vice-captain and a baking fanatic. I’m looking forward to hopefully a slightly more normal year at ULMS where I can finally again spend half my life doing ULMS things whilst procrastinating my degree!
Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to look out for our next post, where we introduce the ensemble reps for this year.
