Ensembles

ULMS has seven main ensembles, Big Band (which is our only fully auditioning ensemble), Brass Band, Choir, String Orchestra, Swing Group, Orchestra and Wind Band.

Each main ensemble rehearses once a week during term time, and any member of ULMS can join any of the non-auditioning ensembles, or audition for the Big Band.

All of our main ensembles perform throughout the year, both in a traditional manner such as in Great Hall concerts, and in things such as Campus Fest, where all the main ensembles play on the various stages throughout the day. Additionally this year our main ensembles have taken part in a variety of other concerts; our Wind band performed a Wicked medley in the annual Ballroom Dancing Society Charity Showcase, our Big Band have performed at a charity gig at Barrow Golf club and both our Big Band and our Brass Band have participated in different competitions.

Each ensemble is represented on the ULMS Committee by a rep, which is sometimes undertaken as a shared position. Reps are responsible for the organisation of the ensemble, including choosing conductors and liasing with them to chose the music, setting up and packing away at each session, and relaying information about different events and things happening in ULMS to the members of that ensemble.
